The newly appointed Executive Director (ED)/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST) paid a courtesy call on the Director of Survey (DoS) on 2nd May, 2023.

The ED in the person of Prof. Lazarus Mustapha Ojigi was accompanied by Surv. Abdoulaye Belem (Dep. Exec. Director), and were both welcomed by the DoS who happens to be the current Chairman of the Governing Council of AFRIGIST, with some key management members of the Survey and Mapping Division.

The ED articulated his vision for the institution which included startegies for marketing the school to countries in the West and Central African sub-regoins for greater enrollment and participation, efforts being made to affiliate the institutions programs to Universities in sister countries and other continents for smooth running of its programs and knowledge sharing, and collaboration with the Africa Space Agency (ASA) for the development of solutions for improving surveying, mapping and the many geopspatial issues facing the sub-region and continent.

He further stated the introduction of two new post graduate programs for the Institution namely Geodetic Science and Marine and Hydrographic Science/Surveying.

In concluding his submission, he commended the DoS for the support given so far in the execution of his duties as Council Chair and for Ghana’s commitment to the growth of the instution.

The DoS commended him for the visionary leadership and pledged his unflinching support for the growth and success of the instution.

Also present in the meeting were Surv. Eric Mensah-Okantey (DD, R&D), Surv. Alhaji Abdul Hanan Abu Iddrisu (DD, Ops) and Mr. Yusif Geoffrey (Head of Accounts, SMD).
