African countries need critical mass of geo-information science and technology experts to drive their rapid development through appropriate and responsible use of geospatial information. The AFRICAN REGIONAL INSTITUTE FOR GEOSPATIAL INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (AFRIGIST) formaly African Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS) was established in 1972 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as an educational “one-stop” solution institution that train highly skilled manpower in the science and technology of geospatial information. AFRIGIST is located within the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Its programmes are designed to extend the frontiers of education and scientific research in Geographic Information Science fields (photogrammetry and remote sensing, geographic information systems, and cartography) to enhance the benefits derived from the technology in various disciplines; decision making and good governance in member states of AFRIGIST in particular and African nations in general.

Only candidates with national diploma (ND), technician’s diploma, higher national diploma (HND), technologist diploma (TD), bachelor degree (BSc. BA), postgraduate diploma (PGD), professional masters (PM), master of science (MSc), master of art (MA) or other higher degrees in science, social science, humanities, engineering, and health disciplines are eligible for consideration for admission.
