Digital Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing for Improved Governance
The use of geospatial technology is changing the way business is conducted throughout the world. It is revolutionizing everything from air traffic control to forest management and mobile communication networks. Not surprisingly, the industry is experiencing solid growth: According to a survey published jointly by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and NASA, revenues in the geospatial information industry are projected to grow from $2.4 billion in 2001 to well over $3 billion in 2005. As the use of geospatial data increases across all market sectors, the industry is expected to grow by 9% to 14% per year beyond 2010. Advances in aerial and satellite-based imagery, geographical information systems (GIS), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are driving the boom.
